been helping build Plotter, which is affan's thing (affan sajid, it's his product) and i've been in the code with him on it. the core idea is so simple once you see it that it's annoying nobody did it sooner. every AI chat tool gives you a flat list of conversations, so all your thinking on a project ends up scattered across twelve random threads you can't find again. plotter organizes chats as a tree instead. you nest chats inside projects, and you can branch a sub-chat right off a specific reply by highlighting it. there's a tree sidebar AND a canvas view, so you can actually see the whole shape of your work instead of scrolling forever

the tagline they landed on is "a canvas for thinking with AI" and that's genuinely what it feels like to use. it's less "chatbot" and more "a place your thoughts live and grow branches". you can share a whole project tree with your team with all the context intact, so people aren't recapping a week of reasoning to each other, they just open the tree. streaming's wired through openrouter so it's model-agnostic. mentions, channel refs, all the connective tissue

working on it has been a good stretch because it's somebody else's vision and i'm serving it, which is a different discipline than my solo repos where i'm the only taste-maker. you have to hold the founder's picture of the thing in your head and build toward THAT, not toward whatever i personally think is cool. between this and mimicode, 2026 has quietly turned into the year i stopped only being a solo builder and started being a person other builders build with. didn't plan that. really glad it happened
