making a rhythm game (timing is EVIL)

Date : 04-09-2023

so this one combines my two favorite things, music and code, so obviously i had to make a rhythm game. started the Rhythm repo today. the concept is simple, notes come down, you hit them on beat. the EXECUTION is where i want to cry

because heres the thing nobody tells you about rhythm games, its all about timing and timing is the hardest thing to get right. if your audio is even a few milliseconds off from your visuals the whole thing feels wrong and unplayable, and players can FEEL it even if they cant explain it. löve gives you some audio tools but i need way more precise control over sync than the defaults give me. been fighting with beat mapping and latency all day

as a guitarist i thought id have an advantage here since i literally think in rhythm and timing, and honestly it does help a little. i know what "on beat" is supposed to feel like. but knowing it in your hands and coding it into a game are very different problems lol. this one's gonna take a while but its the perfect project for me so im not stopping
